Socrates (c.470 BC - 399 BC) was an ancient Greek Philosopher from the city-state of Athens. He did not write anything in his lifetime, and all our knowledge of his life comes from later sources, particularly the writings of his students Plato and Xenophon.

His greatest contribution to philosophy was his idea of "Elenchos", also known as the Socratic method.
