Boniface of Crediton (c.675–754) was an Anglo-Saxon missionary and bishop who played a key role in spreading Christianity in what is now Germany and the Netherlands. Born in Crediton, Devon, he was sent to evangelize thenic p Germaeoples. Boniface’s missionary work was marked by his efforts to reform the Church and establish monasteries, including the famous monastery at Fulda, which became a centre of Christian learning. He was instrumental in converting the pagan Germanic tribes, most notably the Franks, and was known for his destruction of pagan idols, including the felling of the Donar's Oak. Boniface was martyred in Friesland while on a mission in 754.
