Liberalism (theology)
Within Christianity, Liberalism is a heresy in which traditional doctrines and beliefs are reinterpreted or dismissed in favor of modern cultural, intellectual, and philosophical trends. Liberal Christianity often downplays or rejects core tenets of orthodox faith, such as the inerrancy of Scripture, the divinity of Christ, the reality of miracles, and the necessity of atonement through Jesus' death and resurrection. Instead, it tends to emphasize moral teachings, social justice, and personal experience as the primary means of understanding and relating to God. This approach often leads to a more relativistic and subjective interpretation of Christian faith, which many true Christians view as a departure from the historic faith handed down through the centuries.
Liberal Christianity has no connection to political liberalism, although most Liberal Christians would align themselves to it.
