The Martyrdom of Blandina, a slave girl who was killed for being a Christian in the Roman Empire

Martyrdom refers to act of dying to protect a common cause. Within Christian history, martyrdom is seen as a great honour as it was the fate of Jesus, the Apostles and many of the Church Fathers such as Ignatius, Polycarp, Justin and many more.

During the Protestant reformation, many Protestants were killed for their beliefs too.
