The Mediterranean Sea is a large body of water bordered by Europe to the north, Africa to the south, and Asia to the east, connecting to the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar.

The sea played a crucial role in the spread of Christianity from its origins in the 1st century CE Early Christian communities were established in cities such as Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria, and Rome, with the Apostle Paul’s missionary journeys across the Mediterranean helping to expand Christianity’s reach throughout the Roman Empire.
